Operating on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from day one in service, the MV George II, formerly the steam-powered container ship Horizon Reliance, is one of the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly vessels to serve the Hawaii/Mainland trade lane. This newly repowered container ship is the first steam-to-LNG diesel conversion in the world, saving 15,000 metric tons of steel and related CO2 emissions by conserving the hull, and increasing 40' refrigerated container capacity by 110%.
